Introduction

The iPhone 13 is the recent iPhone series unveiled by Apple in 2021. It is the successor of the popular iPhone 12, launched in 2020. This new series comes with a better rear camera, longer battery life, it has an A15 Bionic chip and many more improved features.

Most iPhone lovers have one question on their mind “what’s new about this new series and how is it different from the others?” Also the iPhone 13 has different models such as the iPhone 13 pro max, the iPhone 13 Pro, the iPhone 13 and the iPhone 13 mini.

In this article, we state the differences between these models and also explain the improvement and features that Apple added to the new iPhone 13 series that makes it better than the iPhone 12.

Different Models

It is sometimes difficult to make up one’s mind of which type of iPhone to purchase. This confusion or difficulty is made stronger in cases where a phone in one category has different models, each with its own enticing feature.

Narrowing it down to iPhone 13, which is our focus for today, as earlier mentioned, there are up to four different models. The models are: iPhone 13, iPhone 13 Mini, iPhone 13 Pro, and iPhone 13 Pro Max. These four different models differ in terms of their color as they do appear in different colors and features. Which ever one choses at the end of the day is based on their choice, and also depends on their budget, too.

Before we look at the differences between all of these models, let us first consider their similarities. The Apple iPhone 13 series was released in September of 2021, together with the Apple Watch 7 and iPad Mini 6. All of the four different models in the iPhone 13 series operate under iOS 15.3, which is Apple’s latest iOS.

For each model also, storage capacity is far way higher than other iPhone series. The iPhone 13 series all feature a camera upgrade, better than the previously produced iPhone series. There is an A15 Bionic processor and some other design tweaks in the iPhone 13 series that by far make them stand out than previous produced iPhone series, even the iPhone 12 series of 2020.

Color Differences

Based on color differences, the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Mini appear either in starlight, midnight, blue, pink, product red, or the most recently added alpine green color. For iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max, color appearance could be silver, graphite, gold, blue or green. All of these colors are capable of sending you to a world of fantasy, for the technology that it is. Any color you decide to choose amongst the list of colors is up to you, and be sure reminded it would stay with you for as long as you want to use the phone. Multicolored casing for the phone, however, exists.

Cost Price Differences

The cost price for the iPhone 13 series nearly matches the cost of the previously produced iPhone 12 series. Each individual price is not only based on the date of release of each, but most specifically based on the storage capacity of each phone in the series. This means that the higher the storage capacity, the higher the price, the lower the storage capacity, the lower the price. Highlighted below is the price listing for each model:

  • iPhone 13 (standard) = starts at $1249 to $1769
  • iPhone 13 Mini = starts at $1099 to $1619
  • iPhone 13 Pro = starts at $1699 to $2569
  • iPhone 13 Max = starts at $1100 to $2719

In similarity with other products from other brands, the pricing of the iPhone 13 series nears Galaxy S22 Plus, which costs $1,000 and Galaxy S22 Ultra, which costs $1,200.

So, since each individual iPhone 13 models come in different storage capacity, and we’d earlier established the fact that pricing for Apple iPhone products is based on storage capacities, which may range from hundreds of gigabytes to a terabyte, we have put together a table of the difference of each iPhone 13 model based on storage capacity and their unit prices. Check below:

What is the Cheapest iPhone 13 Model?

The cheapest iPhone 13 model is the iPhone 13 Mini with 128GB of storage. All the colours except for the Alphine Green retail for around $1,099 (at time of writing). Check below for updated pricing.

Storage Capacity Differences

We hinted a little on the storage capacity of iPhone 13 series. For the newest productions, and hopefully subsequent novel productions, Apple has cut of the production of  64GB storage. The starting standard storage capacity now comes in 128GB as the least storage capacity. iPhone 13 (standard) and iPhone 13 Mini come in 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB only, while iPhones 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max comes in 128GB, 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB.

Note: GB is short for Gigabyte, and TB is short for Terabyte.

Design Structure and Size Differences

Based on how much pounds the iPhone 13 series weigh, they are slightly heavier than their 2020 iPhone 12 counterparts, with at least 20% notch. In 2017, with the iPhone X, Apple started adding notches to the screen of their phones; these notches are to serve as places for selfie camera installments. However, in the iPhone 13 series, Apple decided to make these notches much smaller than they used to be. The notches are up to 20% smaller than even their 2020 counterparts.

In previous iPhone 12 Mini model, the camera setup was one atop the other, but with the latest iPhone 13 Mini model, the cameras are positioned diagonally from each other.

The screen sizes of iPhone 13 models vary, based on the model in question. iPhone 13 (standard) and iPhone 13 Pro, for example have a 6.1 inches long screen; iPhone 13 Mini is 5.4 inches long; and iPhone 13 Pro Mac is up to 6.7 inches long.

Display Differences

Based on their display settings, only iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max, in the 13 series, feature 120Hz refresh rate.  What is meant by hertz rate is how many frames per second a device can display. The number of hertz determines how fast the phone can respond to commands, and how smooth it feels to touch. For an iPhone, 120Hz is quite a nice rate.

Camera Upgrade Differences

All the cameras of the phones in the iPhone 13 series feature a particular upgrade, different from their iPhone 12 counterparts, including upgrades in cinematic mode and macro photography.  iPhone 13 (standard) and iPhone 13 Mini feature two upgraded cameras with 12 megapixels wide and ultra-wide lenses. iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max on the other hand feature a three new camera upgrade with 12 megapixels wide, telephoto, and ultra-wide lenses. For the very first time in the history of camera settings in the line of Apple productions, the iPhone 13 series has the feature to take night mode shots. In addition to this, the iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max models were bestowed with a more advanced version of ProRes video. iPhone 13 (standard) and iPhone 13 Mini record HDR videos with Dolby Vision up to 4k at 60fps.

Battery Life Differences

People have always judged iPhones battery to be not as efficient as a battery of other android devices. In the 2021 come-back with the release of the iPhone 13 series, Apple came just fully ready with longer battery life, iOS 15, and A15 Bionic chip. The iPhone 13 (standard) can last up to 17 hours, the iPhone 13 Mini for 19 hours, the iPhone 13 Pro for 22 hours, and lastly, the iPhone 13 Pro Max for a whole day.

Apparently, Apple doesn’t release any detail regarding the battery life of their devices, but speculations are aired, based on facts even, that due to the use of lesser energy by the screen of these new series, they tend to last longer than the previously produced ones.
