Breaking Down the New Samsung Galaxy S22 Range

A lot of people have always respected, and as thus, kept a wide eye check on the release of Samsung’s latest flagship smartphone. The long-expected Galaxy S22 series was finally released for sale on the 9th of last month, February, 2022. The mobile smartphones in this series are the Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22+, and Galaxy S22 Ultra, the S22 ultra, being a little more sophisticated than the rest.

This article establishes the differences and compares between the three smartphones in the collection of Galaxy S22 series, based on their different/similar specifications and features.

Samsung Galaxy S22 (Standard)

By physical construct or design, the first phone in the series, Galaxy S22, looks pretty much similar to the phone in 2021’s S21. The both categories share the same shape, size, and almost the same camera layout. The obvious difference, however, is that the S22 series rear camera comes with a glass layout (Samsung Exclusive Gorilla Glass Victus), other than the plastic of the S21.

The Galaxy S22 (standard) comes in different colors of phantom white, green, pink gold, phantom black, graphite, cream, sky blue, and violet. One may choose from a variety of these color designs, based on what color appeals to them the most.

Galaxy S22 has a dimension of 70.6x146x7.6mm (about 6.1 inches), and weighs 167g by mass. This group of smartphones in the series features a 6.1” flat FHD + Dynamic AMOLED 2X Infinity-0 display, 425 ppi, HDR10+ certified and a refresh rate of 120Hz, same refresh rates as iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max.  The selfie camera measures 10MP with pixel size of 1.22µm. There are triple rear camera in the Galaxy S22 standard: a 12MP ultra wife camera with a 1.4 µm pixel seize, a 50MP wide-angle camera with a pixel size of 1.0µm (12MP 2.0µm), and a 10MP telephoto camera with a 1.0µm pixel size. All three carry a 3x optical zoom capacity, and a super resolution zoom of 30x. This is a very huge upgrade in camera quality of the Galaxy series, having up to 23% larger pixels than its predecessor.

The Galaxy S22 standards is known to have a typical battery capacity of 3700mAh, which has been tested under a third party laboratory condition. The device supports both wired and wireless charging, up to 25W and 15W speed respectively.

By storage capacity, the Galaxy S22 standard contains an 8GB RAM and a 256GB internal storage, and its Operating System (OS) is Android 12.

Samsung Galaxy S22 +

The Galaxy S22+ looks pretty much similar to the Galaxy S22 (standard) based on design. They both share the same range of colors, shape, and almost the same camera layout. The obvious difference, however, is that the S22+ is a little larger and heavier.

The Galaxy S22+, just like the S22 standard, comes in different colors of phantom white, green, pink gold, phantom black, graphite, cream, sky blue, and violet. The Galaxy S22+, unlike the S22 standard, has a dimension of 75.8×157.4×7.6mm (about 6.6 inches), and weighs 195g by mass. The Galaxy S22+ smartphones feature a 6.6” flat FHD + Dynamic AMOLED 2X Infinity-0 display (2340×1080), 393 ppi, HDR10+ certified and a refresh rate of 120Hz.

The selfie camera measures 40MP with pixel size of 0.7µm (10MP 1.4µm). Like the S22 standard, there are triple rear camera also in the Galaxy S22+: a 12MP ultra wide camera with a 1.4 µm pixel seize, a 50MP wide-angle camera with a pixel size of 1.0µm (12MP 2.0µm), and a 10MP telephoto camera with a 1.0µm pixel size. All three carry a 3x optical zoom capacity, and a super resolution zoom of 30x also.

The Galaxy S22+ is known to have a typical battery capacity of 4500mAh, which has also been tested under a third party laboratory condition. The device also supports wired and wireless charging.

By storage capacity, the Galaxy S22 standard contains an 8GB RAM and a 256GB/128GB internal storage, and its Operating System (OS) is Android 12.

Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra

The Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra is also similar to the other two smartphones in the series in a lot of ways, and yet different in a lot of ways also. The difference between the ultra of this version of Samsung Galaxies is loudly pronounced: even in shape, size, and camera module. The Galaxy S22 Ultra has rounded sides and squared off top and bottom edges. This smartphone has been compared in similarities to the 2020’s Galaxy Note 20 Ultra. Like it, the S22 Ultra has a space where the S Pen stylus can be slotted into the phone.

The Galaxy S22 Ultra has a display screen of 6.8 inches, with dimensions measuring 77.9×163.3×8.9mm, and weight of 228g. The display screen is 6.8” edge Quad HD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X, with Infinity-0 display, 500ppi, HDR10+ certified, and 120Hz refresh rate.

The camera module, however, is completely different and all new, nothing like the two other phones in the series. This massive upgrade in camera quality and layout is super impressive. The specifications for the front camera is a 40MP selfie camera with a 0.7µm (10MP 1.4 µm) pixel size. The phone’s rare camera is a quad kind (containing four different cameras), which include: a 12MP ultra wife camera with a 1.4 µm pixel, a 108MP wide-angle camera with a pixel size of 0.8 µm (12MP 2.4 µm), a 10MP telephoto camera with a 1.12 µm pixel size, and another 10MP telephoto camera with 1.12 µm. Now, one can really imagine how much crazier the Galaxy S22 Ultra gets with all of these camera specifications.

Adding to that, the device has a super resolution zoom of up to 100x, and a 3x, 10x dual optical zoom. It equally has a Laser AF sensor, which is used to improve the AD performance in terms of low light environment and close range.

The Samsung S22 Ultra still has a higher battery capacity advantage over the other smartphones in the series. It’s battery capacity is 5000mAh (typical). It also supports both wired and wireless charging systems.

Based on storage capacity, the S22 Ultra has a 12GB RAM with 1TB, 512GB, 256GB, and 128GB (with 8GB RAM) internal storage. Availability of storage capacity may vary by country, model, file size, and format.

  • All the phones in the series have camera intelligent features as scene optimizer, shot suggestions, scan QR codes, and detail enhancer.
